frost predicted

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

and I just lugged what felt like a hundred tropical plants into my garage. They take up one whole side plus hanging baskets from the ceiling. My brugs are in full bloom and so are my passion vines. I had a huge cleradendron ugandense that I couldn't budge, so I left it outside. I dragged that huge purple sugar cane inside and had to cut the top out so it would fit. They are predicting in the mid thirties tonight, so I'm praying that our mums at the greenhouse will be okay. Does anybody else have a garage full of plants? Am I crazy or what?

Cala....only in the 40's here tonite however, tomorrow nite will be in the 30's and a very good chance of frost, which is about two wks early for our area. Most plants got moved into the g-house (or were already there), but sure don't like the fact of a heating bill this early! It was a bit cool/damp here today. I even fired up the wood stove in the shop! (...which is soon-to-be-made into my office!) By the way, what is a cleradendron ugandense...do you have relatives visiting or something?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Shoe, you are too funny. Yes, those are the in-laws!!! They have blue and white faces and are about 6 feet tall. They're scarier than you are Shoe!!!
Seriously, it's a Brazilian Blue Butterfly Bush, how's that for a mouth full?? Do you want to come pick it up and keep it for me in your green house? (I think I done kilt it by not noticing that the drainage hole was stopped up and it stayed full of water for a week) It lost all it's leaves the other day, but still has flowers. It sure looks funny.

HAH!!! CC, I'd love to see some snow! Just not on my g-house! And Cala, YOU'Re the funny one!! I can just see those inlaws! Such TALL relatives you have, and very cold! Blue lips? Don't they have coats? (And by the way, I find it hard to believe I can scare anyone!) And also, that Blazillion Brue Blutterfry Blush, or whatever(!), just damaged my tongue trying to pronounce it...sounds too dangerous to have on the premises! NANA!!! So glad you're here!!! You need me living next door to ya, I'd be there in a heart beat! Sho'nuff would! (cept the downside would be we'd each be in our houses all the time talking to each other on the computer instead of in your garden!!!)

Shoe, no they don't even have clothes. Their leaves all fell off so they're nekid. Would you be a sweetie and come help me move it inside?

Cala, I guess I better swing by after I take good care of Nana! (Man, what a nice trip that would be! I'd love it!)

It's 43 in my backyard right now, so maybe I wasted my time draping sheets over the brugs, but I guess I'll do it tomorrow night too! They're hanging full of buds, and to get them inside I'll have to prune them WAY back. Last night, the hummingbird moths were getting drunk off their nectar and (maybe) pollenating them for me. *Sigh*

I think the brugs that are in the ground are okay, but it's supposed to be a little colder tonight. The sun is shining now and they haven't turned black yet. My garage smells wonderful from all the ones I brought in. Now I just need to find a big van to take them all to the green house in. Shoe, you wouldn't happen to have a big Truck would you?
The cleradendron looks pretty bad though. It is hanging it's little head and doesn't have a leaf on it. Guess I should have put it in a smaller pot that I could lift!! Wonder if it's too late to take cuttings?

Palmyra, VA(Zone 7a)

Still hot here, and humid.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Lisa...I saw the cleradendron in the DB! Also some some good pics at the Monticello home page...very pretty. Reckon I'm a prevert now, I mean CONVERT now, I gotta have one! If they make seeds I'd like some Cala...no flowers/seed pods dropped?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Shoe
I saved a few seeds, now if I can remember where I put them!! I can send you some frosted on cuttings, lol. Actually, the stems seem to still be turgid. (not mushy) I will cut it back and send to you if you want to try it.
