LOL Heather --stuff happens!! I was caller a couple years ago and our power was out 13 days and a tree from the ice storm took out my internet satellite--I texted bingo calls to Syrumani, when I could get signal.

I remember too! I remember the morning I finally was able to get her on the actual phone, instead of a text!

lol i could see that happening here....except I only get enough service for text messages sometimes & that's when I stand on the arm of the couch on tiptoes with one foot, the other leg up like a flamingo, one hand with my pointing finger on my nose and the other hand holding my cell phone up in the air at a 30* angle. I lost my mind and rearranged the livingroom furniture the other day...I quickly moved it all back once I realized I had to run back and forth across the room to send and receive text messages. There is NO service at DBF's...not even if you stand on your head....well, I've found ONE spot that has service...in the middle of an old calbe swinging foot bridge over the river in the middle of the woods (think Survivor). Gotta love the boonies!!! ha ha ha

what you need, heathrjoy, is a Bingo hat! It is rumored to help reception . . .

LOL I have to leave my cell phone in the window--it has its own little lawn chair--gotta love the bluetooth--to text -after I type it-- I have to wait until signal comes back and then send. gonna invest in an antenna and booster next time I have a spare $300 laying around (not soon in other words).

DBF got a mobile hotspot for at his house. It hooks up through the internet. You can actually set it for how far you want it to reach (200 ft radius, etc) It cost $200 at Verizon (since that is our carrier). Amazing. NO service before that for about 15 miles. Now there is *perfect* service. I'll be getting one eventually...and then losing my landline. He had the radius set for much wider when it was first set up but then cut it waaaay back since folks were pulling up and parking in the driveway to use their cell phones!!! It took 2 days for folks to figure out there was cell service at the big old tan house with the pond out front. Problem was they wouldn't wave hello...or even get out of the way when we were coming and going from the house...so they lost their privledges.

DBF lives where there is an elk herd that attracts a LOT of tourists...who will park ON your lawn, in the middle of the road, jump over fences posted "no trespassing" and generally make a nuisance of themselves. The cell phone thing seemed like it would be nice for them in the beginning (since they are all always walking around waving their phones in the air like it's gonna help)...but it just turned out to be a huge hassle. So, now we have great cell service in the house...but outside you're back to using pigeons!!

We don't have a land line-- but wonder if it would work with satellite internet? Not nearly as fast as DSL.
