From my recent discovery of the wide & wonderful world that is DG, I began zealously gathering seeds today. Up to the Crocosmia, things were pretty straightforward (Hosta, Meadow Rue, Trumpet Vine, etc), but my short red Crocosmia has me stumped. There are red and black seeds on the same plants, even in the same pods at times. Both colors are abt 2-3mm in diameter and dried to the same degree. Is this indicative of hybridization? I only have this variety of Crocosmia in my garden and it has been so for many years. Lastly, how easy is Crocosmia to start from seed? This variety (unk. 'HDepot' purchase yrs ago) is hardy in-ground over winter in my 6a garden, even though it was listed as only hardy to 7.
Thank you.
