Please ID this guy. I found it when unrolling water hose, in webbing between rows of hose. Took an aggressive posture several times running toward us not away. Thank you in advance.
Another FL Spider ID
The image is not clear enough to be certain, but the overall shape and posture of this spider is consistent with it being a jumping spider (family Salticidae). See http://tinyurl.com/3aaemhd for an image of Phidippus regius, the largest species found in Florida. They are capable of giving a painful but not dangerous bite if handled carelessly. They have excellent eyesight, and often will turn to face what they perceive as a possible threat.
Thanks for your reply. Wish I could get a better pic but he's history. I've never seen a jumping spider so large or with such a large ball shaped abdomen. I had ruled that one out also because of the longer more slender legs not at all like a Jumping spider. It also raised up waving it's front legs. If I see another, hope not, I'll try a better pic. May have to invest in new camera!
