I'm sooo very sorry Brenda. It really wasn't a pressing issue. They could have waited. I just didn't want them to get lost on the mail and died in transit. Thanks you soo very much and my sincere condolences to you and your loved ones.

Brenda, it is unbelievable that you have lost so many family members at once.
I guess my hunt for Grand Marnier and Mtn. Magic will continue but I must ask if you have any cuttings of Charles Grimaldi?
I have no Charles rimaldi, I might have mountain magic. I know I sent at least one out to someone from Dave's
Can you check and let me know? I really have tried to find this one. I even have it on permanent search at eBay

Brenda, I found CG elsewhere, but thanks for trying. Hope this bad spell with your family is over.
Brenda I just wanted to let you know that I received the cuttings yesterday. I'm rooting them in water and hopefully in a month or so I will be able to transplant them into bigger pots with soil. I can't wait for spring and hopefully some blooms. Who knows.
Thanks again so very much.
Rolando
I still havent received my cuttings yet hopefully tomorrow
Hey Brenda, I've been out of the loop for so long, I am sorry to hear about your family losses. I know family is very important in your life.
We don't need another Brug, although I think Ken disagrees, he's been trading like mad this year. LOL!
I should try to find the pic we took of my van full of boxes the year we offered Brug cuttings here, what a response we had! Good friendships came out of it as I recall, Joan Cook being one :~)
Hope your holidays are a happy time for you and yours.
Maggi
Well, I think Roly just answered a question I was going to ask. I wondered how long you should leave the brugs in water and how long to let the roots gets before moving them over to a potting mix.
I like to live my cuttings in water long enough to have a well established root system. It has a higher survival rate. I've done it with jasmine cuttings that I got from my aunt and they grew a nice root system and transplant shock was minimal once they went in pots. They are currently growing new leads from the older eyes.
Sounds like a plan to me. I had just read on one of the threads, it was better to root in a rooting mixture than in water, because in the water the roots that developed were too thin. Want to do everything I can to be sure these little babies make it!
I seldom root my Brugs in water, I much prefer soil. If I do start mine in water, I plant them in soil as soon as they start putting out real roots. There is a difference between roots growing in soil and water roots. If you grow lots of roots in water they will die back when potted in soil and will have to start growing new roots.
A lot of time I want to get the most out of a cutting so I cut them in pieces 3" to 4" long and pot them in 6-packs. I like them in small pots so I can make sure they do not stay too wet. This is the season that most people share cuttings because they are cutting their Brugs back to take them inside. This is not the best time to root, Brugs like it to be a little warmer when rooting, so bottom heat helps. As you can see I have had good success in rooting them this way;
Thanks ken, that is what I had heard. I have a few that are putting on roots. Some had started to sprout in the wet paper towel on their trip to me! Need to get some more potting mix.
Make sure you use very light soil, add perlite.
Yes, I got some light potting mix, and added extra pearlite to it. Thanks!
Brenda,
I am so sorry to hear of your losses. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Debbie
Mine have not come yet but i prefer to start them in water first then soil just as they start to get their nubs.
Dirtygirl, Isabella is quite lovely! I remember seeing that picture elsewhere on this board (or is that somewhere in here) where you mention your daughter is 5'8.
Ken,
I received some brug starts from another DG friend, that have your name on them, so their original plant must of come from you. I'm sooooo excited!!!!
Thank you, tikipod
Mine came froze so I don't have any :(
mstish, I do not think that whites have any problem being transferred from water to soil any more that any other color. Your Super Nova looks very green ant they can be a problem. Also the pots you planted the cutting in is a bit large for cuttings that have not developed a good root system yet. It is too easy to over water in large pots. I like starting cuttings in small pots and stepping them up as they develop their roots.
Mine came froze so I don't have any :(
At least you received yours...

Super Nova did not like being transplanted from water to dirt. Hopefully she will get over it. She is a white and if I can get her to bloom I want to summer her pot next to my Niobe Clematis.
Mine didn't either. Stem I had out of the dirt is all shriveled, but I was told to leave it as sometimes they do that while building root.
Is that a viable Y at the top of the picture? Just wanted to know for my own information.
Thanks!
Yes. This is a particularly interesting brug. I got it already planted - right at the Y so it has two trunks. It grew to about 6 feet and Y'd. I took off all the lower foilage to make it look like a double standard. Now two years later it is putting out branches on some of the places I removed leaves. I have been wondering if these can be considered a Y when taking cuttings.

Should I try to move them to smaller pots or leave them alone? I have been giving them extra water to make the transplant easier for them, Guess I'll stop doing that. Are you saying green cuttings don't do as well as those that are woodier? So much to learn. This is my first time starting cuttings and my first time wintering my two big ones inside and non-dormant.
They are not Ys, they are side branches. If the plant grew 6' then there was no Y at the bottom, it was just two branches.
For those of you who did not get their cuttings or got frozen ones, consider what Brenda went through. She had such a time with people who did not send addresses or would send money but not give their DG name, so she did not know who to credit. Then she came down with sinus infection. Later she lost three family members in eight days. By that time cold weather had hit. This turned out to be a real nightmare for her.
