I have never seen anything quite so unusual. Any ideas on it's identification?
CLOSED: Unusual yellow and black spiked spider
I think it's a spine-backed orb weaver. Very neat looking and harmless.
This is indeed a crablike spiny orb weaver, Gasteracantha cancriformis - see http://tinyurl.com/yfmhkzb for an image.
Thank you so much! Everyone kept telling me it was a jewel spider, but those all seem to be native to other countries. I am deathly afraid of spiders, but I kinda like this one. He is still living on my back porch and has been there for over a month!
She really is cool looking!
