Bug ID PLEASE my wife was bitten

I found this guy and another one in our bed and one on her. They are extremely small about the size of a pin head. I think it may be an American Dog Tick (Dermacentor variabilis).

with all the write ups about bed bugs in New York and that part of the country I would question to see if is a bed bug. We are told not to bring anything that has cloth on or in it unless we can heat it up in the dryer on high for 20 minutes

This is a mite, either a bird or rodent mite (see http://tinyurl.com/2drh5z7 for an example). They will bite humans if their normal hosts are not available, but do not transmit any human disease.
