NE Florida "thing" looks like a spider with a lizard tail...

Jacksonville, FL

Hi... gardening today, I picked up a bunch of dead brush and saw this thing scurry off and back up to my fence. (I would have got a picture but my cell wouldn't capture him cause he was too well camoflauged. ) At first I thought it was a spider, light brown with drk brn specks, legs and body that appeared to be somewhat furry and I think it had 8 legs (although I could be wrong.) It had a head that was kinda angular that narrowed towards the front... it was a little bigger than an inch and a half (head and body portion) but then it had a tail that looked and moved exactly like a lizards, it was flexible- not rigid, and about 3 inches long. Its body was oval shaped but not long. It moved backward and side to side, like a crab would, keeping it's front side facing me as it backed up to the wooden fence. Any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like it may be some type of salamander. I came across one once when I was raking leaves. It was hiding underneath the leaves.

A scorpion of some kind?
