The Send-Dave-and-Trish-Plants-A-Thon

I've received lots of E-mail from people who want to send us plants as a gift for doing Dave's Garden. While I don't seek any reward from our members for maintaining Dave's Garden, I would love any plants that any member wants to share with us!

We recently moved ontu a 16 acre farm, and want to fill it up with as many different kinds of plants as we can get. We went through our books last night and compiled a "Want-List" of 65 different types of items, and this morning I updated my want-list.

So, if anybody wants to send us plants - we'd love to receive them, and the plants will receive the best care available! :)

In my want list, you might want to sort by common name. You'll then see that at the top are some plants that have exclamation marks in front of them. These are items that I really really really want. The rest of the items are items that I just really want. :) Also, if you want to send something not on my want-list, that's great too. We love all plants and there are just too many varieties out there to list all the ones we want.

Send me an E-mail for my addy.

Best,
Dave

Dave,
I'm looking forward to sending you a Trish a box of perennials divisions this spring. It will be a while before I'm able to dig here - probably not until around the end of April. I'll get in touch with you then to make sure you'll be around to receive them.

Don't forget the roses!

I have no Japanese Maple, but have some Japanese Maple seeds if you are interested. Also Red Maple seeds. I might have a few Bells of Ireland seeds.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Tim- We got some trades of Bells of Ireland, but they were smashed :(

About the Japanese Maple- how long would it take to grow from seed?? This is one of my REALLY wants, but they grow soooo slow!

Trish--WHen I get home tonight, I'll check my seeds stash for Bells of Ireland.

From what I have read on Jap Maple, anywhere from 3-12 months before germination begins, or even longer. I think they have a double dormancy, hot-cold-hot cycle 6-8 wks at 80, 6-8 wks at 40, then sow the seeds.

I have some seeds in the fridge since Nov. and some have started to germinated while in the fridge. I'll be happy to send you some that haven't started yet, this way you can just plant them outside since they already went through the cold cycle.

hi Dave

are you sure you want Pelargoniums? They aren't perennials. Could it be hardy geraniums, geraniaceae, that you are after.

Dave, you crack me up!! I'm glad we can do something for the two of you. I really love the place you have created for all of us and the wonderful atmosphere. I have never seen anyone act so quickly on programming venture before either.

I only wish I had some plants to send you. You can be sure in the summer I will though. I am putting in a big flower garden myself.
