I only have three buffs that are old enough to lay. One lays every day, one every other day and the 3rd... well lets just say she either hides hers very well or she just isnt laying at all! My mama Serama keeps going broody but no eggs...er well none with any size that is..... last Spring she finshed off her laying after hatching her 3 babies with 3 marble size eggs in one week and that was all. Then she went Broody again( no eggs) 2 weeks ago then laid another marble, and that was that!!!
A friend suggested adding boiled eggs and soaked alfalfa pellets to their layer mash, then if that didnt work use the cayenne method!
Haystack are you giving your Seramas anything special to keep them laying?
ARGH! 1 or 2 eggs a day, what is wrong with these chickens.
I think mine just need to get on some fresh grass! Unfortunately the Red Shouldered Hawk couple living on my land would also like to see that! So I think I will do one last mowing this weekend and rake up the clippings. I'm also putting out cooked oatmeal with cayene mixed in. The jalapenos got me three really good sized eggs on Wednesday, and two last night....
Once I get mine moved to their winter coop, which has fresh grass around it, I'm pretty sure they'll increase laying. Mine prefer free range greens over anything I've ever given them, with the exception of berries which they also love.
We had to change their grains because the old source temporarily dried up, and they appear to hate it, barely touch it. picky picky picky
Well ours have picked up laying a little bit, at least we get more than 1 or 2 eggs day now, but still not a lot. Maybe 3 dozen this week which isn't much considering how many hens we have that should be laying eggs.
I found 4 (brown) eggs today. I guess the black snake really loves green eggs or those americana are either late bloomers or laying their eggs outside somewhere. Hurrumpf
