i came across this spider in my back yard tree when I was mowing this past weekend. can anyone help idnetify this critter? it is about the size of a half dollar maybe a little bit bigger. also has anyone ever seen this in the middle illinois area?

That is some type of orb weaving spider. Maybe someone else will know exactly what it is.

thanks for the help. i just wanted to make sure we didnt have some poisonous things runnin around the yard with a little one on the way
No problem. All spiders are venomous to some extent. I found it best just teach my little girl "That's an OW OW OW, don't touch! lol.
