CLOSED: Bug ID?

Melbourne, FL

I assume these are eggs from some kind of insect. They are placed in a neat row on the underside of a leaf. Any ideas? I'm not even sure of the plant, since it is from a Florida native seed packet of mixed flowers and has not yet bloomed.

That's a good mystery. You can also post it here. The bugguide.net ID request. You'll get a number of entomology oriented people looking at it.

Thanks. Identified at BugGuide as Grasshopper eggs. I will certainly be watching these closely.

katydids also lay their eggs that way.

btw, i hate that we have to search other websites for our id's. i hope suunto is still around. he and several other great id'ers will usually come up with the right answer for us here.

They actually identified them as Katydid eggs. I'm no bug expert...I figured they were closely related. They are still there, I'm checking them everyday.
