I was just in the yard. I looked up and saw a jet trail. It was strange...laser thin and straight as an arrow. I looked closser. It was moving. It is not a jet trail. It is a spider web. Just one long strand that goes from a tree top at the back of my property to a tree top at he front of my property. Approx. 200-250 ft long. Is this possible? What kind of insect made it? Is it rare? I took a picture and it shows up but I can only get a few feet of it. If you zoom way in you may see it.
250 ft Spider web - Is this possible?
I think that's the beginning of an Orb Weaver's web. The spider let's out a thread in the wind to "catch" another object, tree, etc. That's how they span between objects. This is the initial anchor. It talks about same on this page under the Orb Web Construction section.
