CLOSED: Volunteers Needed For Seed "Flower" Experiment

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

I haven't received mine. I guess it won't be here until next week then. Hopefully tomorrow but I barely get anything on Saturdays. Ohh well. Let's just wait and see what happens.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

If any of you haven't received your package by next Tuesday, I will send out another to you.. It was kind of hectic at work, which is where I mailed from.

Mooresville, NC(Zone 7b)

Debra would you like for me to send my other one on to Roly0217?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Lets wait another day or two... if I am seeing this correctly, three people have not reported receiving their mudflowers.. am I right? Elsa, Sequee and Roly.. is that correct?

Pretoria, South Africa

Yes Debra, I am still waiting. Will let you know as soon as it has arrived.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

So here she ( I say she because she is a flower child) is in her final resting place. It is a bed on the West side of my house that gets afternoon sun.

Should I stomp on her? Seems so cruel! :o)

Selinsgrove, PA(Zone 5b)

I gave you my info. Was I on your "sent" list?

Don (DEMinPA)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Don, yes.. as I said earlier, if you last few do not get one, then I will re-send. I sent out fifteen, which one went to Fruity, and I guess the extra went to melz. I stand by my word, you will all have one. Bonnie, I would let it sit for a couple weeks, and if it doesn't rain let it go, if it rains, I would like to see it after.. Son always stomps on his, but then the tiny seeds end up in his shoe tread and then gets mowed as seedlings. That looks like a perfect spot!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Debra I got mine yesterday.....in perfect condition, with a little flower pressed into the top! We don't actually bury them? just place on the ground?

Karen, yes, go ahead and plant it where you want it to grow.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

She's here... (They made me go pick it up at the post office and open it therebecause the return addy was on the back. Carmel post office is strict about crossing the "t's" and dotting the "i's".)

Love the pink paper - makes me feel like it's spring already - even though I was picking the last of my tomatoes in the snow yesterday~:-)

And here's the first of many photos to follow! (Course now I have to go back and read all the instructions again!)

What is it? Some kind of Aster?

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Nothing on the mail today. Hopefully by Monday. Ohh well I guess mine will have to wait a bit longer. I'll take a picture of the pot tomorrow for reference.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Kelly it is a native daisey flea bane. In the aster family. they bloom all spring into fall, but I cut them down and let them come back. I really love the smooth blue asters, and the dainty pink ones, I put them in my mixed containers as they look like "airey" fairy plants . Hmm that sounded dumb.. The blue phlox is a pretty plant to compliment the asters.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Thanks Debra - they're pretty! Hope there's some in my mud cookie;o) I am planting it tomorrow and will take a pic of it in it's new home...

Pretoria, South Africa

Debra,

It didn't sound dumb! It sounded like something that will look great together with my roses in a fase. I love "airey" fairy plants. LOL!

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

whatever is in my lil flower cake, will they be alright in the lily bed?? Will get afternoon sunshine till evening...

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I think a lilly bed is perfect!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I TOTALLY love airy fairy - unless someone's referring to my brain! ~:-)

I hope there's some in mine, too. Dang - this is too exciting to have to wait so long for!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Debra, I didn't get a chance today to plant mine. Would you like for me to send it to Roly or Don? Since "officially" I was testing a MG mudflower. Whatever you think, my dear.

Pretoria, South Africa

Hi Debra,

I recieved the seeds you sent me, together with the recipe for the mud flower, yesterday. Thank you so much for sharing I will keep you updated.

Elsa

Here is the baby as it arrived... I have since glued the 4 O'Clock seed back into place;o)

...and here she is planted in her bed for winter. I did water her when I watered the garden a sprinkling since we probably won't get rain until December - if we're lucky - lol...

She has 1 sq ft of space in the SFG to do her thing.

I am glad things are going good so far.. Kelly I see no reason why you can't water it when you water like normal.. caring for them as in your zone is what I am hoping for. Elsa, so glad you got the mud flower seeds and recipe.
Fruity, That is a nice offer. I do have three more to send out, if peeps can wait a couple days, they need to dry more, and besides, they might get theirs after all. I am hoping anyway. If not,
I can send them theirs in a few days. I still have to get that mg mud flower to you.. Did anyone get the mudflower in the bubble wrap yet>/ ?

Mooresville, NC(Zone 7b)

Oh, that was me who received the one in bubble wrap. Was it special?

- Melanie

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Don, the mudflower is in the mail.
That way you'll have a chance to catch up a bit, Debra.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

I'm a bit confused - no big surprise there - but in an early post, you stated you were using a big pot so you could "move it in and out thru out the winter", so I'm wondering...should I leave mine in a stationary place or plan on moving it when it's especially brutal out?

I pulled my tomatoes out over the weekend, and I have a HUGE pot designated for this. I'm just trying to determine where to place it. I'm thinking close to the house might give it the best protection, but if you think I should bring it in during ice storms, etc., then maybe I'd be best served to place it near the basement door, or even close to the canvas garage, where I can drag it inside as necessary?

Decisions, decisions...

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Well everyone it finally came in the mail today. So adorable the way it was packaged. Here are some pictures

I tucked mine into bed today, just nestled her into the soil in a spot that gets full sun (not that we'll be seeing the sun again until April... LOL)

Very good! Fruity, that was so nice of you. I am sending your "flower" out Wednesday, with a few other things I am sending to peeps. I will send you a flower too like the others. Melz, I am sorry you didn't get pink paper, I ran out. LOL

Looks like everyone is ready to go just about. I am only moving mine in and out so I can see it, but for the most part, it is staying outside.
I don't go out when it is cold. Bleah. I am putting another one in a 2 liter plastic bottle so I can "Watch" it inside for germination rates.
Don, plz let us know when you get yours. You all Rock!

Selinsgrove, PA(Zone 5b)

I received my mud cookie today. It is already planted and I marked it in the garden. Thanks.
