I have 3 ginkgo trees (4') that I have raised from 4" seedlings. Is there any way to tell if one is female..could do without the stench of the fruit (unless wildlife like it ,,I would shovel it up and put in the woods.
Anyway...any tips appreciated
ginkgo trees male or female?
No way of telling until they start to produce pollen or seeds.
If you do end up with a female tree, you could always invite people from your local Chinese / Japanese / Korean community (if there is one nearby) to collect the seeds, the nuts are highly valued in eastern Asian cuisine.
Some wildlife will also eat the smelly pulp - Raccons apparently like it.

Thank you. Will keep this post. We have a large Asian community..mostly connected with the University of Wisconsin.
Would serve take out to raccoons...take it Way away before serving.
