Is this the cat of some type of tussock moth, or arelative? Only has one tail clump of spines that seems off-center so I suspect that some critter grabed the second clump.

I suspect that this could be a rather battered specimen of an American dagger moth caterpillar (Acronicta americana; Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) - see http://www.cirrusimage.com/moths_american_dagger.htm
