kewl, i raked all my leaves up into a pile, i pile em up in my gardens over the winter and burn em .. then tiller em in .. helps to improve the soil.

more work on the waterwheel today, hopefully be installing the raceway soon and mounting the alternator/generator (PMA) on it and maybe crank out a few amps of power. also cut n tote'd in firewood .. dang cold weather hehee
It was sunny yesterday and today but still chilly with a cold wind blowing. We had a frost this morning. It was right at freezing. Took the blankets off the horses today when it warmed up but put them back on this evening. Calling for 36 in the morning.
Thought you might like this pic. It's the Russel Fork River. It runs through the deepest canyon east of the Grand Canyon. Only about 25 minutes from my house.

worked on the waterwheel today, angle iron braces on the back side of the tracks for support all bolted in. also put the rollers on my brackets to go on my sawmill, where it'll roll along on the carriage ... an yes pic's will be coming soon.
How do you combat rust on these projects?

Ditto on Veteran's Day . I appreciate all service past and present. We owe a debt of gratitude to those willing to serve and give their all. My Dad was a veteran. I have a nephew who is a veteran and a nephew who is a marine stationed in Hawaii. He has been to Iraq 4 different times. I hope he does not have to go back. His life has not been easy but he feels good knowing he has helped the oppressed have a better life. And we cannot forget to thank the families of the service men and women. They serve also in a different capacity.

I'd love to see some more pics of your place. Wish i could be living a more sustainable life but I'm afraid my time has passed me by. I just have to get satisfaction out of doing the few things I can. I like growing my own veggies even though I can't grow enough to take us through the winter. I like having my own chickens for eggs and meat, goats for milk, cheese, butter and meat. We raised our own pigs and ended up with enough meat for a year. I'd like to get back into rabbits but I'll wait until after winter.
A friend of ours brought us a deer. I boned it all out and put it in the freezer. I kept out a shoulder roast to cook Sunday and some trimmings to grind. Thinking about mixing some of it with some pork sausage. Going to make Bambi Bites out of the back strap. Mmmm

now that sounds like a plan, hard to beat fresh deer meat, today is open gun season here on deer, matter of fact i think every hunting season is in now other than turkey .. we dont have a fall season but we have a spring season, which i think is kinda dumb bein they are laying an nesting in the springtime. but they "think" they know what their doing LOL ..
ill get around to posting more pictures of my place soon, fall colors are passin into the drab as you call it.. still some pretty leaves around tho .. an only the acre where my cabin is setting is the only part cleared, the rest is deep woods mostly hardwoods with a few pine thickets ... ill try to get some new pic's up an posted soon tho ..
oh yes... time hasnt past you by if your still breathing, just do it one thing at a time .. ill give up when they plant me 6 feet under. LOL but then ill see the place God has prepaired for me to spend eterenty in. now talk about self sufficent .. we dont know nothing yet ... heheee

Happy Thanksgiving! We had a very good day. Sadly we could not be with family but we were invited by good friends to share the day with their family and it was very nice. Great food and great friends. And the Saints won!!!!!! LOL

no only have a spring turkey season here, no fall season .. but i did deep fry a 16 lb turkey tho ..
here's another Turkey .. LOL my oldest Grand Daughter braids my beard an hair everytime she see's me an she's 14 .. started years ago when she first learn'd how to braid hahahaa

Brrrrrrrrrrrr someone left the a/c on or something .. LOL saw something strange yesterday morning .. 3 flocks of geese headed "north" ..... weird for Dec. in Alabama they usualy head South all winter then back north in the spring ..... maybe winter is gonna pass us by down here hehee...... one could only wish ..
my waterwheel's first test...... no generator mounted to it yet. an the raceway isnt even cemented in... its just kinda hangin over the dam... more water going around and under it than going to the wheel, just a trickle hitting the wheel, but its turning around 30 rpm with quite alot of tourqe... more pic's to come soon and more test an results ....

i hope when its finished i can muster 60 rpm's from it, thats my goal. an the 10 to 1 ratio it'll give me the rpm's and the tourqe will increass also to make my generator put out at medium power range .. so less water i can still get ok power from it .. an more water it'll make more... but ill be happy with what i can get from it... after all ... even a little bit is better than none ..
