When to Plant Easter Lilies in SE GA.

Omega, GA

I have acquired several Easter lily bulbs & need to know when to plant them in the ground here. I presently have them in the crisper drawer of my refrigerator to keep them cool & moist. They are packed in peat moss. I recently planted some ordered lily bulbs & they are now comming up!! Not the right time of year! HELP!

I purchased several Easter lilies during Easter time. After they finished blooming I planted the whole plant into a 5 gallon container. I now have several buds getting ready to bloom again this year.

You may have a problem, living in Georgia, where your winters are fairly warm. Think of what you lily bulbs are doing in the fridge right now: they are "sleeping" thinking it is winter. If you take them out and plant them now in the much warmer soil, of course they will think it is spring! I would venture that your bought lilies were also in cold storage, and the same thing is happening.

Of course, I live in Minnesota and only submitting educated guesses here, but if I were you, I would keep your easter lily bulbs in the fridge until you are ready to plant in spring.

Since you put them in fridge keep them there.... wait until after Thanks Giving to plant them ..... you should be ok then .... I looked up your frost dates Donna.

I want to thank everyone for your input. I will leave them in the fridge till the end of November then plant. Donna

I am think that will be fine. As long as the ground temperature matches your fridge temp (or is colder), the bulbs should stay "asleep."
