Her wings are transparent, bordered with the most pretty velvety brown liner of her entire white/transparent wings. Her tail is 'decorated' with a pom pom-like little round feathers. And at rest, her pom pom sweeps back and forth from left to right....

A clearwing but I don't know which.

The moth may be pretty, but its larvae can be serious garden pests. This is a melonworm moth, Diaphania hyalinata (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/2efpdaf for detailed information. Your specimen was releasing a sex pheromone to attract potential mates.

Thank you suunto for the I.D. hemlady. I thought so too. Our vegetable garden is now tapper down. A few of these moths are welcomed in the garden. No serious crop damage have I noticed. melonworm, I need to memorize that. What cutie!

Interestingly I spotted the green larvae on brugmansia leaves a time or two before. I grow La-kwa melon in the garden as well. I wonder if they're there to feast on the bitermelon?
