White fuzzy looking oval bugs on stems

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

These little guys are on many of my plants. The plant shown is a Mexican Mint Marigold. What are they and how can I get rid of them, preferably organically? Some are on edibles and some are not. Thanks!

These appear to be mealybugs (Hemiptera/Sternorrhyncha: Pseudococcidae), distantly related to aphids. If your plants are very sturdy, you could try washing them off with a strong stream of water. otherwise, periodic application of an insecticidal soap should work - see http://tinyurl.com/24n2yxu for some examples.

Thanks a bunch! I sprayed some insecticidal soap today. Now I have to tackle the black fungus...
