Some of you have recommended that you should start your larkspur seeds in the fall if you want Spring blooms. I have the seed laid out ready to plant. Is it too early in the Washington, DC/Maryland area to plant them? Should I plant them in 4 in. nursery pots or in milk jugs, then transplant them when they are ready to go into the ground. I am having a landscape person come the first week of Oct. to do all my Fall prunning, bed maintence and putting down new mulch so I don't think I'd want to direct sow them before then because wouldn't the mulch interfere with them needing light to germinate?
Need your experience with this plant and your advice.
Starting larkspur seeds
According to my seed sowing guide you can direct sow those seeds in ur zone between Sept. 15-Nov. 1 or dormant plant when the soil is below 50*. Your spring sowing time is March 15 - May 15. You should sow them at a depth of only 1/8th ". I would wait until after the landscape person comes then clear away the mulch andd do your thing.
