Bought Hatching Eggs

Los Gatos, CA

I am going to candle my eggs as well. I have 12 buff orp's and 12 blue orp's. The gal who shipped me my eggs did not have extras, so she sent me Mille Fleur d'uncle's. I love those chickens! So I hope all goes well. It's day 10. I did candle two days ago and found two eggs clear. I am hopeful for a good hatch.

Oh, I would love Mille Fleur d'uncle's. They are sooo pretty. Hope all yours hatch.

I did my candeling. Of course I don't know much of what to look for. But I know I candeled before I set them so I could see what clear eggs look like. Tonight is day 8 and ALL of them are developing. Now that I have something to compair it too, I realise that my prior eggs had these same dark patterns in parts of the eggs before they got so dark that I could see nothing. So I have concluded that if I candel dark eggs like Marans or Olive eggers it is just only necessary to see if the eggs are clear like the one I tossed before lockdown. Any development and its just wait and see. I guess there is more to see with the lighter eggs but I don't really know what to look for. I can see the shadows of what must be developing chicks. So I know that they are good. Eight out of eight so far.

That is awesome results for shipped eggs! If you look close and "relax" your eyes a little, you will see what looks like a tiny caterpillar moving at about 10 days.. it's amazing!~ Congratulations!

Won't be long you will be building frantically.. LOL

When I figgure I have given it enough time, I will open all the rest of the eggs from this hatch I am doing now. I have 4 chicks, a fully formed dead upon pipping chick, one clear undevelloped egg and I will see about the rest. But they are all too dark to see thru so I think something is in there.

Well, this is the second week since these Lavendar Orp eggs were set. So it was time to candel again tonight which is what I did. It is so neat. I can see the dark part were the chick is and I can see the air cell. I can also see veins in there. Much more than I could ever see the first time around with those very dark eggs. (Couldn't see anything really). One really looks like a quitter to me, just no veining and a much smaller dark spot in there compaired to all the others. But since I am not sure its a quitter I just marked it and kept it in the incubator. So 7 coming along perfectly and one very doubtful.

I will candel again the night I move them into the Brower for lockdown and hatching.

Lockdown!

I candeled again before moving the eggs for lockdown. The one iffy one had no change or more development and is the same as last week. I took it out and will be tossing it. I put the other seven into lockdown. However, after candeling four look really good and three look iffy. I put them all in lockdown just in case but the ones I thought were iffy I marked so if they do not hatch I will know it was the iffy ones and which ones they are. I am still trying to learn what to look for as I go.
