Went outside this morning to get some sunlight, this moth was waiting for me when I got back to the door. With the sun shining directly at its head, it looked like small shiny diamonds on the front is its face. It is a good 3 inches in length. What type of moth is it?
Moth?
This is a sphinx moth (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae); there are several species that can have this general appearance - see http://tinyurl.com/29kuc7e for an example.
