My neighbor has this tree. it is a small and "cute" tree and has these red berries(?)--fruit (?) all over it.
The "fruit" looks like raspberries from a distance....
He says his dog eats the fallen fruit--so they must not be toxic.
Are they edible?
Thanks--Gita
Please ID this tree....
That would be a Cornus kousa, Kousa Dogwood.
I can make out the oppositely arranged foliagle and nice exfoliating bark on the trunk.
Fruits are edible by humans (been there) and I'd assume wouldn't particularly bother a dog.

Thanks a lot! I will let him know.... Gita
Yep, edible, and can be delicious

I have two of these trees bordering the entrance to my driveway. I will try to be brave enough to try eating one or two of the berries just to satisfy my curiosity. I can't get over how much new info I gather at DG when I least expect it!!!!
As Mike Dirr remarks: "...I'd rather have a Snickers Bar..."
They are quite variable from tree to tree – some I've tried were dreary, floury and with little flavour, while others have been juicy, with a very good, somewhat strawberry-like flavour. Don't be put off trying others by a dud tree.

I have yet to go over to my neighbor's and try a fallen berry....
I should! Then i could jump in and let you all know what I thought about the taste....
