I love this picture of one of my cannas peering out from jail (aka protection from wild basketballs). I don't know the name of this canna, but it has purple foliage and made it through the winter and our crazy summer.

Thanks for all your kind words. Those big dark leaves are Castor beans "Ricinus communis" It is an annual here but easy to grow from seed. It is the source of ricin a very powerful poison especially the "beans". Deadly but beautiful

Thanks Pony I didn't know that was a new plant..I'll plant it! Kym this is the first year I have had Cautleya spicata and love this little ginger. I have tried to grow Hedychium but it really never bloomed or it was too late in the season.

Wow, such beautiful stuff! I didn't do many annuals this year as most got mowed down in the greenhouse by a nasty little mouse, so I don't have much color going on in the yard right now. It is fantastic to see some of the different things that people are growing that could add come late season color to my world!

Pony, your dahlias are glorious. Mine are just finally starting to bloom this year, so I have been a bit miffed at them. It is great to see so much color in yours!

Linda, your yard is just stunning. Pony is right about the prolif on Bill's Hugs. You have to treat it a bit like a cutting when you first plant (ie baby it a little bit) to make sure that it survives, but prolifs are copies of the parents. I am guessing that means Dad is very happy to be sharing your garden!

Kymm, you have such pretty blooms. I had not seen the Sedum 'Vera Jameson' before and Iove it. I have tons of sedum 'Autumn Joy' which is just starting to color up, and have liked it so much that I have been looking for others to add, and that looks like a wonderful one.
