We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1088216/
Apparently it rained all night! I woke up and couldn't see the bobber in my rain gauge! It was at 5.5" & overflowing!! It's never overflowed before. I emptied it yesterday morning, but not last night because it wasn't "all that full" (only 1.25") and when I went to bed it was raining again and I wasn't going out in it. Still raining this morning and more expected.
Rain at Last! (Pt. 2)
As Hermine passed through here where we live she dumped 9 inches of rain on us. Thank God we live on a hill!!
Ouch finally rain !
My new bed of lettuce has washes away ... my peppers plant are down on the ground ...
I guess we are lucky we are on a hill !!
Oh well !!!

So far I am 5 inches at the house and 2.75 at the orchard. There are many totals around Austin and the hill country over 10 inches.
More to come today.
Yikes!
My rain gauge was at 8.5 inches right now, I emptied it and we shall see how much more we get.
The water went over the curb and washed a lot of my mulch away, so I will have to redo it.
Oh Well, there is always a price to be paid, no matter what, nevertheless it is still a blessing.
Josephine.
Wow!!! That is really something!!!
This reminds me of the old saying.......be careful what you wish for.
About 13" here. I was afraid this was going to happen. We are fine but it sure is a mess
Probably longer than we think, and besides things dry out much faster here in Texas.
lol - Free mulch and vegetable seeds for everyone who lives at the bottom of a hill!
We had just finished digging what we thought was a really big hole for a rain garden. Worked pretty well for the first five inches...
Every time my ex would sow grass seeds it would rain like crazy. The people behind us have beautiful grass! OMG I see a little sun. Now we will probably have thunderstorms.
The water is back down, and the only casualty was a bag of molasses that was on the floor of the shed, a whole lot of mulch, and some bark on my elderberry where it was slammed into by a railroad tie. Everything else looks wet but fine. Whew.
I am happy for you Dennis.
ZOWIE!!!!
I was at lunch with a girlfriend in Onion Creek today and the creek is running, coming up as we ate, around the greens...little deer were wading and looking confused.
I was just down in the Hill Country where renatelynn lives this weekend and had to drive back home in the rain all day Tuesday! We hit a lot of water pockets, thank goodness they were not deep.
While I was gone my DH and the dogs had to deal with the high water. This one is walking on a wall of rocks, but beside her the leaves hung on the fence show where the water was a foot or so higher at some point. This is only the very back of our yard where it floods all the time with heavy rain. Most seemed to have bypassed our area thankfully.
Nice water bowl for your dog, Sheila!
Tornadoes touched down over in Dallas today! Wow! So glad we had blue skies!
Really Stephanie, tornadoes? I heard about the flooding over on Irving blvd, but no tornadoes. I am glad we got run offs to the lake here or we would have been flooded.
There are videos of the tornadoes on the news. That isnt the first time a tornado has hit Dallas.
No more rain for me, at least for a while please.

Sheila - Love your little dog.....what is that plant to the left of him in the picture?
Wow, this photo was taken upstream from our house. Not far away at all.

Morgan...Those behind where she is standing are cannas...incase you meant the others, those are Jerusalem Sage on the other side of the water.
Dennis...that is sad, hope it wasn't family. I heard about the drowning and a lot of other flooding in the Dallas area. We were blessed not to get the heavy stuff and high winds. Glad your yard is rebounding.
WOW Dennis! That's scary.
Yowza, it floods so fast here! Dennis, glad you made it okay. I got between 8-10" (got another 1" very early this morning). The tornado sirens went off late yesterday afternoon, but luckily nothing fired up in Rowlett. We needed rain and, oh my gosh, we sure got it.
Josephine, my mulch was floating around and away when it rained incredibly hard too. Then I planted Frogfruit directly under my eaves. It's a challenge to keep the plants trimmed up, but it's worth it for the mulch-holding ability they have.
Carla
Thank you for the tip Carla.
A friend of mine told me that he saw on the news that Colleyville got over 10 inches of rain, and Colleville is upstream of me. That explains things. :)
I heard about all those tornadoes. Seems like there were little tornadoes all over the place in the eastern part of Dallas County. It rained really hard here and I kept my eyes open, but never saw one. Carla, I should've heard the Rowlett sirens, but I didn't even hear that. Wowser, that rain was hard and loud.
Dennis,I wonder if they considered this the 100 year flood. Good thing a lot of the creeks were reinforced a few years ago. I'm sorry the water from my area came down to you! At Parr park my husband couldn't believe the amount of mud up near the trees.
The park certainly is a mess. I took Ellie over there today, but the playground areas are still fenced off. I hope that we don't see anything like that again - I certainly hope that was at least a 50 year flood, if not 100. :)
Most of you guys are on the northern sides of Dallas/FTWorth, and it seems the heavier rains hit the western portions across I35-and south to San Antonio, Houston got rain, as usual floods, but I have noticed the rains in Texas are getting to be flash flood qualifiers-4" an hour types- that keep the low areas deep in water when it rains, as long as the ditches/creeks/and drainoffs are kept cleared the water carries away better. Mark where your water rose to, it might come in handy for future plans and references. Sheds that aren't tied down do tend to float, some folks raise them off the ground down here so the floors stay dry, some have trlr house tie downs added to keep the winds and water from 'rearranging the furniture' so to speak. Do open them up to dry out, I hope you don't have our mold problems from the flooding, I reallly, reeaalllyyy do.
We have had three 100 year floods and one 500 year flood in the last 11 years.
Time to redo those flood maps.
Jujube-what qualifies as a 500 hundred year flood?
The flood plain map.
They list areas that can possibly flood and list them by how often they think they will flood.
That is why you request a flood plain map on a new house when you are buying.

My shed does not have a wooden floor, so it is less of a boat than the shed in that picture. :)
My flooring is a bunch of concrete blocks that were leftover from the previous owner of my house, so it at least drains really well. I have been leaving the door and window open a lot, so hopefully life is good.
I remember the 500 year flood...
