Brower Top Hatch Incubator

Richmond, TX

I will have to see whether I can find the article about lavenders having defective feathering, they sound beautiful.

Cool.. I'd love to read it.. Thank you Porkpal

Have been busy, busy, busy! Even though you haven't bought any more hatching eggs, yet, I'll bet you've been looking LOL

Ha, Annie, you have me figgured out. I have been looking at those hatching eggs. Now that I have two incubators so I can do stagged hatching (just add those eggs whenever I get them and move to Brower hatcher for lockdown) I think its all downhill from here on LOL! Its not quite as bad as before I had any chicks as I have the babies to watch to amuse myself. But I will buy more hatching eggs, just a matter of seeing exactly what I want.

(Zone 5b)

I've been looking at hatching eggs on Ebay with you! I will NOT buy an incubartor, No, No, No. Ummmm, probably not. Maybe.

The roosters that will surely hatch would be a challenge for you. By the time they grow old enough to sex them, I know you would be super attached to them. But hatching is so much fun. Myself, I don't care, I will just give them away.

(Zone 5b)

You're right, Rita, it's too hard to part with them, even if it is a rooster. I'm going to stick to ordering sexed day old chicks. Welsummer & BCM's are at the top of my list. I'll just enjoy the fun and suspense of incubating through you and everyone here. It's funny how I think of the everyone and their chickens from this forum during the time I'm not on line!

It really is so much fun to hatch. And I just started. I could keep on doing this forever, ha-ha.

I hope you can find some Marans and Welsummer girls to add to your gang :-))

Richmond, TX

I've always gone with sexed, day-old chicks and I still have two roosters. I don't think I could stand the suspense of hatching. It's bad enough reading about it from you folks.

I think its stressful in that you worry about them while they are still eggs. But its so much fun. For me if they turn out to be roosters, it will just give me an excuse to hatch and try again :-))

Los Gatos, CA

I am excited to see so many of my eggs are developing! Now I am wondering what to do with all these chicks. I only want a few.

I have a friend who has a broody hen. Has anyone put out a new chick under a broody in the middle of the night?

Richmond, TX

Yes a couple of people here have had success with that.

Well, I started up the Brower again today. Need to make sure temperature and humidity are adjusted well before moving the Lavander Orps eggs in on Wednesday.

Richmond, TX

Oh goody! Another hatch is imminent! (Vicarious excitement is plenty for me.)

Eggs in the Brower again. Today is lockdown for the Lavander Orps. Should be hatching on Saturday.

I have been hanging out here on the Poulty Forum instead of the daylily forum and the iris forum as the chickens are my latest craze.

Glad you've come to join the fun o_kitten, welcome!

So the Brower is all cleaned up. Nice and washed and sanitized to be ready for the next hatch. This thing is dishwasher safe but since I do not have a dishwasher I just put some Dawn dishwash soap and a splash of Oxine for disinfecting and wash it in the tub. It's too big to fit in the sink. I can see the problem using stryrofoam incubators to hatch as there is an aweful mess in the bottom of the incubator after everything is done. I don't see how I could get it easy clean like I do with this plastic one.
