Where are the hummers?

North Port, FL(Zone 9b)

OK Riverland, the Neon sign goes up today....in RED! haha, will get more Red inanimate things to attract them. I have no neighbors so wont worry they'll think Im nuts :) Thanks for the tip on the nectar. We have several Cardinals that enjoy our fare til the Bluejays come to the feeders & shovel out what they dont want making a mess & leaving the mockingbirds to pick around on the ground. Have also seen a couple of woodpeckers throughout the summer & Red winged blackbirds...very pretty especially in flight.
B-fly garden is producing & attracting. I watched as 2 Gulf Frittilaries mated & she went to the garden to deposit eggs. More caterpillars eating their host plant so we will continue to have more. Also sulphers have finally visited regularly & 2 stripe walking sticks galore.I don't use pesticides for that reason.

October month is relatively 'cool' here still. Our temp. drops to the low 40's this early morning. :(( But it's predicted to get warmer again this coming week. So it's hard to predict our first frost here. Our hummers embracing their journey South is a signal for us to get ready for frost. Nice catch there Cindy!

Smiling on your remark Sicula. During the summer months, I did notice when I wear red while gardening, often hummers will follow me as I worked in the garden. I would love to see your Neon sign. lol. Usually we've many sulphurs visiting this wild flower bed my neighbor made. But lately I only saw one here or there.

This is my sign. LOL! They read it and they came ... but they, too, are on the move along with the hummers. Luv those little guys (and gals). Luv all the pictures too. Cindy takes some nice ones, that's for sure. As does everyone else.

I have cypress vIne too Lily. A friend of mine gave me some starts a month or so ago. I have some mesh around several of the seed pods. I hope to get some more too. I won't have to worry about it coming up next year, I'm sure it will drop plenty seed to cover that. It grows like wildfire around here.

We had a little frost here this morning too. Tulsa was 38 degrees, we were about 41. Doesn't look like it bothered any of my plants. 38 was a record breaker low for this date.

We had our first light frost night before last followed by a FREEZE warning last night. Sheesh. It's still too dark to see what the outside temp is.

I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer. It has a wire that you run to the outside with a censor on it.

You don't even have to have wires these days. Really inexpensive wireless indoor outdoor receivers are available these days. I have bought them for less than 10 dollars. My favorite is the one I went out to Sam's to get today. It is an Atomic clock large numbers that sets itself automatically time and date. It has the moon phases with indoor temp and outdoor temp wirelessly. This is by Skyscan and I know you can buy them online too. I paid 29.00 for it. I killed our other outdoor sensor when I hit it with the waterhose. We had it for about 6 years just lying on a table under the porch. I guess I really saturated with the hose because it died.
It is 46.00 on Amazon plus shipping.
