I was given this picture of a moth? found on the hood of a car in Indiana. Can anyone assist me in identifying this? I am puzzled.....thanks!
Identification Help!
The image is not clear enough for me to be absolutely certain, but this could be an Ailanthus webworm moth, Atteva punctella (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/2fopf5s for images and more information.
Thank you for your reply, but this insect had defined white, orange and green striping. But, I am now convinced that this is in the moth family!
Thanks again!
Although a bit north of its usual range, another possibility is a bella moth, Utetheisa ornatrix (Lepidoptera: Erebidae; subfamily Arctiinae) - see http://tinyurl.com/22oqrm7 for an image.
