We find as many as 5 of these very little bees sleeping in a sunflower head. They are about 3/8 inch long. Their antenae are as long as the body. We live in the high desert of northern Nevada, which is at the 4200 foot elevation.
CLOSED: Can you identify this critter? We think it's a bee.
These are long-horned bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae; subfamily Apinae, tribe Eucerini); likely in the genus Melissodes - see http://tinyurl.com/25lzebf for an example (not the same species as yours).
