This spider is about 3.5-4 inches in diameter(this includes the leg span) the body is about 2" long. What is it? I saw it peak out from under my TV cabinet and saw me and backed up under and I freaked out because it looked huge for a house spider. I tried to get a better look and pulled out the electrical cords that were piled up under there and temporarily stunned him (possibly injured his leg but he came to and took off like there was no problem).
Anyone know what it is?
What kind of spider is this?
This appears to be a wolf spider (family Lycosidae) in the genus Schizocosa - see http://tinyurl.com/28fxgev for an example. Basically harmless to humans, large specimens can deliver a painful (but not dangerous) bite if mishandled.
