I should know this one but I can't even find butterflies in the BugFiles. How DO we find specific kinds of bugs in BugFiles? I searched for Butterflies and it came back No Matches. duhhhh.
Anyhow. What's this one. Please.

Never mind. I found it on my own photo site. I knew it had been posted recently.

Here you go...this will help you locate the butterfly in Bugfiles

Butterflies are Lepidoptera, there are two divisions. One for butterflies and one for moths.

Here's the main BugFiles page: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/

Here's the butterfly section: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/browse/order.php?bid=161

You have a Buckeye, Junonia coenia http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/19/

Thanks, Melody. I doubt many people would think of lepidoptera never mind know how to spell it. I should know it but I'm old and forget lots of stuff.
I like BugGuide's silhouettes to start a search.
I've always been poor at searches.

You should be able to scroll down the BugFiles search page and see examples of the various insects...Ken has put representative images for each order on the page. He's separated them up so that you can search for insects that are representative of the example given.. Once you get accustomed to it, it shouldn't be much different. Let me know if you need help.

Yes. And the Lepidoptera (Part 1) is my photo. Mourning Cloak
What I eluded to was that "Butterfly" came up empty in my search.

Ahhh...I see.
Sorry for the confusion.
