could someone please tell me what this spider is . saw it while working in scotland . thanks

this is it . its body with the markings on was about 30mm wide.

This appears to be Araneus diadematus, an orb weaving spider (family Araneidae) known as the garden or cross spider - see http://tinyurl.com/28ljc9v for detailed information. This species occurs on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
