http://logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=R1897-2
there's maybe 60ft of stem and limbs. and it finilly started bloominh... this is a picture of about 3' of it... with maybe 50 buds... if you can imagine such a thing...

Well I hope you post photo's when they open !

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I'm in my 2nd year awaiting buds on my alata .. none yet .. I'm getting to the point where I'm getting rid of plants that don't perform. Don't be surprised if you see my alata in the plant trade forum this fall.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

well... the first dozen of the many 100's of buds opened today.. not the red they pictured on the Logees site... but the text says red/violet.. and I guess this is more a violet... without a hint of red... wonder if I got a mislabeled one.... I'll have to post a picture and ask...
but such a relief.. and so many of them to come....MMMMMMM

here's a closer look at them... I'll take some others when the sun is off them... and I'll get better light/color

Gogeous Gordon, the one I got from Logee's died on me. I cannot believe how big your vine is, what did you feed her????? Congrats!!!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OK...MJ'S ..you asked for it... there must be 40 open today
Clemen... well if you were here..HAHA...HA..I could give you 4' of this one.. and you could root out cuttings for everyone...
As for what did I feed it.. well.. lots and about everything.. my latest is Algoflash... flowering...
it left the trellis.. and started going through the brugs...

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Gordon,
Thank You !!! Really nice!
Algoflash uh ? Maybe it would convince my brug's to bloom, they've been very reluctant this year....I've been "hissing" at them when I walk by and making threatening remarks re: the "burn pile" !

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

She resembles Amethysts so much Gordon, is she really purple?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

yes.. mostly purple.. with the tinyest hint of red..... and she's fast.. less than a week ago I had piles of buds.. now they have processed through to flowers... hundreds.. not a single one to go.. and nothing held back... but two of the other three have buds...

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

WELL... that first one.. had 100's of flowers... they cycled through it 4 or 5 days.. not a single one blooming now.. but I did see it making another big flush of them... many more I believe.. if that's possible.. now I know they will waait to open then blam... all open and then all gone
Soo clemen.. is this one you might have given me seed from.. I thought this big vine all across the front was a reincarnation of my Clear Sky... but it isn't at all...

Thumbnail by GordonHawk
DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL...not Clear Sky, don't know which one..........but it's gorgeous ! I'd love to know which one it is !

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

thanks.. MJ's .. not a hint of purple.. just pinks and reds.. it's a strong vine.. and loves to climb on everything.. here it's on the angel trumpets.. all the flowers soo far are at the top.. and I just brought my ladder downstairs.. there will be lower flowers to picture then.. for an inside shot of the red center in the pink..
maybe someone will recognise it as theirs.. or at least know who it is..

My pura vida just finally bloomed in the past week too! Mine is more purple than red as well.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

I didn't know where to post this one.. I said gardening here was like a cage fight... I just love it when the kids get along together ... I'm sure each of them would like to be out in the middle somewhere ... but here it's grow if you can find some space..

LOL....how do you seperate the children when it's "bed time" !!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

MMMM MJ... with cuttings for folks they are seperated...
everything did fine... and they all have reset themselves... pura vda had at least doubled her fine show of before... and inbetween the rains she's sending out a few maybe 4 dozen exploratory blooms... the full load will await the sun I believe..

this is it today.. a week of blooms later.. and still showing off...

just about every passi leaf ..or bud was destroyed by a massve hail storm... broken bent or torn... the buds were looking to flower anyway

Wow Gordon, that's weather we usually get here ! I think that's very unusual for your area isn't it?
Amazing the way plants rebound.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Well... MJ we're not rebounding as much as ringing out the last of what was in place before the catastrophe ..and it was massive... shredded all the brugs..and plumeras... as they have alot of water in the leaves.. calladiums were leveled...
yes.. it's most unusual here ... we're usually spared these heavy weather events... the fruit that was formed on the other passis did OK it seems... and should develop with nurishment from the roots.. perhaps thtere's a few weeks of rebounding left here though...

Holy Smokes ! Oh you must have your hands full ! How did I miss this, I don't remember hearing anything about it on the news.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

well the passi's are inside some did well... others got crisp.. from my not getting to water them enough...maybe they will come back after a rest... others are doing great..
Temptation x Temptation from some seeds of Volker's in Germany.. it's a triploid... and what it seems to mean here is it's a real strong grower and flowerer with the extra genes....but it did come down with it's own trellis and pot.. so it didn't have to get ripped and back threaded from the trellis.. to get the vines downstairs.. that would surely help it .. anyway... she dropped her first seed pod the other day.. with a bunch of dark seeds each in it's own enclosure of a clear liquid gel which I'm soaing off before drying them... some wll be planted right away..

Gordon, do you still soak the seeds when they are that fresh ? I have seeds from "Insence" I was going to try. I've never seen seeds for Insence before.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

I would be eating those seeds Gordon, the fruit looks so yummie!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Clemen... well.. you're always so full of promises.. :-)
have a great Hiliday there

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Gordon..you too....:)

Lost lots of passis this winter I am so sad....

So did you try the fruit?

Bet not....It is ok you are not a ttropical boy, you just like tropical plants, on the other hand I am a tropic girl for sure.

Happy New Year...

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

HAHAHA... no I didn't try it.. there was about no flesh.. just seeds and a bt of goo around each seed.. I know some seeds like to sprout after passing through a digestve system.. but they are harder to clean then.. and I hadn't heard this for pass's.. or I'd have given it a try.. happy new year ... - 48 hours.. 40 minutes.. and counting down

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

The little "sacks" around the seeds is what you are suppose to eat. I'm at the point where I nick virtually every seed I sow. I use a pair of cuticle scissors because they are bowed and very sharp. I cut off just a sliver of the seed coat on the side from bottom to top using the convex side of the scissors. Since I've been doing this I've had better and faster germination.

My brother, the doctor gave me a small syringe and a really fine bore needle. I'm going to try injecting GA3 directly into seeds and see what happens on the really stubborn ones.

X

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

X, I eat the whole thing and love it....what is GA3? Before I gooled it?

Gordon, are your streets cleaned?? What a mess this year, there are no excuses, whatever the mayor says....Hope your bruggie house is in place, snow can really damage lots of things.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

GA3 is gibberellic acid - a plant growth hormone.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Is it easy to get?

Happy New Year!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Happy New Year ...
yes .. clem it's around... 'm sure the hydro store has it.. I used it back in the 60's and found it made some of the things used it on got such mutated growth structure.. I haven't tried it since.. Guess there might have been too much.. of the thing I used it on ddn't take to it ..
yes.. snow condtions were terrible.. the mayor blamed it on the folks getting out and drvng n it... then getting stuck in the snow.. then the plows couldn't get through but he didn't tell them they weren't going to plow at all for 6-8 hours after the snow started.. so it was a big suprise when they got stuck.. along with some 100's of city busses which were stuck in the snow along their routes .. it suprised them also.. days after we had most of the roads here in Brooklyn closed still.. blocked with ambulances .. police cars and busses.. with private autos blocking other roads...
ok.. it costs the city a million dollars an inch to get snow.. and it seems someone came up with a chart that showed they could save some of it if they didn't go out and plow right away.
duaah... I still have 4'deep drifts on the roof ..

GA3 is readily available .. Gordon is right .. you have to be really careful when using it or you can really warp your plants. For seed starting I use it at 200ppm and I'm thinking that might be a bit too much. Once I see signs of germination I immediately rinse the seeds.

Gordon and clemen - those stories sound a lot like what happens in Pennsylvania every year. The roads are bad enough as so as it is, but they never salt, use the chemical or pretty much do anything in a timely manner. You should read about the "Valentine's Day 'Massacre'" on I-78 from a few years ago. I worked outside of Rome, NY and never had issues with the snow on the roads like in PA.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Gezz Gordon, I know what you are saying about the clean up, I think he slipped big time...hope that roof gets cleared soon, I assume it is a flat one...isn't it?

Carey, did you live in out neck of the woods?

X thanks for the suggestions and advises, I will be carefull and promise to be a good girl.
Need to find that stuff first though...Gordon told me where to find it, just have been lazy to go get it.

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Clem - I did for a little while! I still have family in Oneida.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Oneida sounds like Upstate right? Lots of snow too, brrrrr cold cold....

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

clemen... I'll meet you at the hydrostore tomorrow if you like.. hahaha and splt some GA3..
yes the roof is about flat.. about a 1/12 pitch.. maybe 1 1/2 / 12 .. most has melted.. the 5'drifts are down to about 16" or so now.. and the roads are plowed...
the picture was days after it stopped on the nearby roads..

Did you go there today? No kidding I would meet you there, have a full week from tomorrow on...my job these days is like crazy, do not even know when I am working.
