Want to Propagate your Jasmine Sambac?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

If you want to propagate your Jasminum sambac, now is the time! You can take cuttings of nearly ripe wood in the summer, or ripe wood in autumn.
Since I was so late trimming back my Maid of Orleans this year, I put both nearly ripe and ripe in pots today. In fact, last week I started to take cuttings and gave over a 100 to my friend who has a Farmers Market and large greenhouses. Today I finished trimming and planting my cuttings and I stopped at 81. If they all take hold, I am going to be out of space in no time. I used both potting soil and coca coir for planting. They are now sitting in their little pots in closed flats of water...just soaking it all up in this 90 deg. temp. which is dropping because of a cloud cover and ocean breeze.
The old Mother (stock) plant looks a bit smaller, but she still has more to give, I just decided to quit while I still have some space. She has had a good trimming and hopefully it will make her even more productive next year. The picture is the oldest of my stock Maid of Orleans. She was over 5 ft. tall this year when I started trimming.
Good luck to all you propagators! Have a great evening.

Mine was putting out long runners and now I don't feel bad about cutting her back .

Mine are 8 ft high (4 ft taller than chain link fence they're on) with some runners on the ground 10 ft away.

You are so fortunate to be in a warm zone. I can not allow mine to get too big because she stays in the GH year round. I can not lift the container any longer. LOL I am jealous. Hugs.
Have a good evening. Time for me to get dinner.

I'm going to have to put mine out in Tex , because I didn't know they got that big and I can't continue to transport them back and forth .I have a good place for them and I love them . It just kills me to cut something back and not stick it in a pot to root .

Oh Digger I know how you feel. I have this very large cane like angel wing begonia that if I did not cut it back it would go out the roof. I have to keep all these things in my house and greenhouse. My bedroom is full of Christmas Cactus stock plants of all colors. I have this double salmon hibuscus that is just too big to keep moving in and out but I just do not have the heart to let it die because it was given to me to keep for my SIL's father when he went to the hospital and he passed away. I just hate to kill the plant now. LOL What a silly old goose I am. It looks like we are heading for another heat wave this week. I have orders to ship but they are going to have to wait due to this 90 deg. crap. Have a good day. Must go water. We have only had less than 1/2 inch of rain in weeks. Other places in the state had 3 to 4 inches but not us. You just can not win sometimes.

J , come and get my blue crown . He cusses a little bit , but free .lol

Ahhh, poor baby, I am sure you do not want to get rid of him. My Double Yellow Head is a real stinker. He chases the cleaning lady to the point where I have to put him in the cage when she comes. He hates her. He actually pulled her pony tail one day she was on the floor cleaning up bird poop. They all have such great personalities. Just like people.
I have no idea why none of mine do not cuss. Not that they do not hear it. LOL Just lucky I guess.

J , I'm going to be 72 Wed and this nut is only 10. I just want him to go to someone that understands birds .All kidding aside , I know you live across the world , but I really am looking for him a good home . I hand fed him but he turned on me when I tried to help him groom his feathers and clip his wings . Now , I'm only the cook, he likes d h only. He hollers "watcha doing " when I cook or we eat . that translates to FEED ME TOO. Gets ridiculous, and keeps repeating , louder and louder until he gets food , has us well trained .He always has fresh food , he just wants what we have .lol

I still have quite a few contacts in the bird business. I know quite a few in your southern states. If you really want to get rid of him, send me a private email, describing him, and giving your physical address and your private email address and I will then contact breeders in your area and see if I can find someone who may want him. Do you have sales papers on him of any kind? Does he have a band on? Who bred him or where did you get him. All the information you can muster up. Has he been sexed? Is he for sure a male is what I guess I need to know. But, be sure you really want to get rid of him.

I know what you mean, my oldest Amazon is Gunny and he is 19 now. I am 82, so I have him in my will as to what is to be done with him as well as the other birds. It is a good idea after a certain age to either get them a new home or put it in your will how you want the bird disposed of.They can be good company as well as a real PITA at times. LOL

Talk later. JB
