Since I was so late trimming back my Maid of Orleans this year, I put both nearly ripe and ripe in pots today. In fact, last week I started to take cuttings and gave over a 100 to my friend who has a Farmers Market and large greenhouses. Today I finished trimming and planting my cuttings and I stopped at 81. If they all take hold, I am going to be out of space in no time. I used both potting soil and coca coir for planting. They are now sitting in their little pots in closed flats of water...just soaking it all up in this 90 deg. temp. which is dropping because of a cloud cover and ocean breeze. The old Mother (stock) plant looks a bit smaller, but she still has more to give, I just decided to quit while I still have some space. She has had a good trimming and hopefully it will make her even more productive next year. The picture is the oldest of my stock Maid of Orleans. She was over 5 ft. tall this year when I started trimming. Good luck to all you propagators! Have a great evening. |
