Oh, Bonnie...you have her in a perfect rosette!!! She is gorgeous :) When is the show?
Connie
Bonnie,
She looks great the way she is.

I think Helene is on vacation now. She is our "show plant" specialist.. She posted on here someplace where you put sheets of paper under the leaves and then look down from above and any "out of rosette shape" will show up pretty easily. I think it looks pretty good from your pictures. I always have trouble growing those frilly leaved plants.

It's the august 12th post - subject: Sharing ..sorry, I don't know how to link that here. tish
GEOURGES - Needs a collor. Make one with meat trays - low edge, cut to fit half of the pot cutting out the round for the pot and burn many many holes into it, then the other side.
Now you need to learn when to increase the light supply to get it into full bloom by show time.
I had 'amazing grace' which was curly and showed well. The thing to watch with curly ones
is that the very outer edges of the outer leavess don't show even a bit of yellowing. So when ready for show scrutenize for this and you can still remove leaves up to 2 weeks before show I think.
Just beautiful
Maybe i should say take of a bunch of leaves so we can get some. Bonni JUST KIDDING.
Tish yellow episcia blooming day I left. not one ,many.
Helene
HI Helen;
As soon as the show is over you can have some leaves lol i don't understand your message about making a meat tray? are you saying i should make a pot out of a meat tray?Let me know, i really need all the help i can get.lol
bonnie
oh i am sorry. you make a collar for on top of the pot under the leaves or you buy the AV collars . A meat tray or veg. tray with a small lip upward. You cut them to fit half of the pot then you cut out a round not to damage the violet but so that it can still sit on the edge of the pot.put lots of holes in it for air flow. you then put them on the pot with the lip of the tray downward so the leaves lay on it nicely. Try it with a non-show plant first. Also take care should you want to place them under the leaves of your show plant as not to break the leaves. Actually this should be done before they get too big.Hope this help. If you want to talk on the phone I am at 908-832-7702. Helene
Ann is beautiful. Mothers Love center is changing, summer, the heat... Could still work you have quite some time.
and with the blossoms coming in it would tighten up.
Check with show chair person as to what kind of pots are allowed. If it is an AVSA show they are very strict about so many dif. thingsHelene
I was given a couple of those plastic collars a couple years ago but I didn't understand how to use them. I'll look for them (I had two sizes I think) if you are interested in them mrsbonnie....I think there is a picture on the cape cod violetry place of what they look like. I know some people use the foam plates (like paper plates only the foam ones), but don't you have to put that on the pot at the time of repotting? or how does it stay in place.
Beautiful varigation on ann leaves!
Helene..aren't you on vacation?
tish
Hi Tish;
Oh thats so sweet of you to offer. I do have 2 sizes, but they are both to small.I have a friend who i think has some, maybe i will call her & see.
bonnie
Hello, yes in Tewksbury NJ - very beautiful Horse country. Sand stone houses are magnificent etc. etc.Peeps here have Llamasf or wool. Raise Buffalo for meat. Donkeys and other strange animals.Interesting. Have my lap - top. at home use PC.
Bonni be careful putting them on now. But do praactice for next time. Make a diff.
Oh yes plastic dinner plates would work, but often not large enough.Helene
Mrsbonni How is the Pettycoat coming for the show? And the others? Can we see pictures? Oh and how are you?
Came home and all is well lost 2 tiny plants, that's all. Good caretaker.
The leaves you sent are all shootin out plantlets. Fun. Helene
looks like they will bloom just in time. they do have a good shape. Helene
Beautiful plants Bonnie!
tish
thanks, i am hoping they will be ok for the show.lol
bonnie
move them to more light, need to intensify the blooms...you only have 2 more weeks.HD
I have them right under the lights, about 3 -4 inc. from the light, the lights are on 13 hrs a day, should there be more ? Thanks for the info.
Bonnie
yes 13/14 hours, not sure if you need them that close though.
The closeness makes mother's love reach upward.......I think Helene
my friend came over when i had the mothers love lower on the shelf & she said to move it closer as it was reaching, still seems to be reachin. lol
bonnie
They do have their own mind - so to speak. Specially if you so want them to perform. You'll do well. Transporting is another story. It's been said that Lyndon Lyon in his time would get extra plane seat for some of his violets... TLC
That's a good subject for a group discussion....HD
Bonnie, you are doing a GREAT job!!! Please let us know how the show went. I see some ribbons in your future :)
Connie
thanks for all the nice comments, i will keep you posted.lol
bonnie
i am so disappointed that there are not enough flowers on any of these, but thats the way it goes with plants. So it's worth a try, but i doubt any of them will do well because of the blossom count.
bonnie
OMG such beautiful plants. Lets see what happens. Depends on your competition and the judges. They can be harsh. I liked being judges helper - their comments can be devastating. Good luck.
Here in Sarasota - Selby Gardens is hosting the Tampa AVS and Ges. show next weekend. I am as exited as a kid going to the circus. Can't wait. Open the doors to public Sat at one, a'll be there at twelve.
We do have many huge orchid shows that I do attent. Not my bag though. I kill them.
Let us know soon as to how it went. Helene
Oh, Bonnie...I hate they didn't produce enough blooms. Ann is to die for...well all of them really!! Do they have a class for foliage only? They are in perfect rosette formation. You get all blue ribbons in my book :)
