Today I learned that late afternoon light is a no go...mostly all my bird's were in shadow. So morning light until about 2pm is the optimum lighting for shooting for my spot. Decided to spice up this thread with a introduction. All in fun.
Pipe Creek Wildlife Area part 4
Every visit to Pipe Creek since February has produced a new bird for me, today I thought was the day that the run was over. As I was getting ready to head back to the truck, I thought maybe I can get a close-up of the Black-bellied Plover at the other end...so I decided I'll just take the long way back and headed in that direction...no B-b Plover...so I thought Id get a couple shots of the Willet nearby. Wait this one has a curved bill...new bird No.184 the Whimbrel.
Great action shots there, Burd.
Thanks for starting a new thread for Pipe Creek. I like your introduction, Burd. And, congratulations on the Whimbrel. As you already know, lighting can raise havoc with a photo. I also found that as the morning advances, the bird activity slows down and the water birds tend to disperse over a wider area. If you're exposed to tidal variations that can have a huge impact on what you see at certain times of the day.
Thanks Margaret and Linth. Linth, the whole marsh is controlled by large "pipes" with water from the bay/creek...these have locks on them and a wheel is used to open/close them at certain times of the year. There is the first of 2 duck hunting season's one coming up in Sept. and one in late Nov. Currently the water is evaporating making the mudflats get bigger and bigger and the shorebird's have really taken to it. I figure soon the water will be let into the marsh and thing's will start changing for the fall season. I know I have been "indulging" lately but hey I,m loving it...winter will be my slowdown point, but a lot of duck's and merganser's are coming before that. ;)
Wonderful photos Burd. Congrats on still another new one! I love your action series and they're all so clear-great job. Happy to hear there's more to come!
Beautiful Burd! Great job with all the photos! I enjoyed that series of the Lesser yellowlegs stand-off!
Nice ones Burd!
Those Snowy Egret pics are calendar-worthy!
Wonderful Burd, congratulation on your new birds!!! Oh and great start with the frog, neat shot.
Thanks Everyone! GP would love to get one with his plumes raised if not for a calender then for sure for my wall.
Still another congratulations to you once again. You sure have been lucky with your new birds.
Wonderful photos, especially on the egrets and little blue. They're nice and clear. Great job and it's obvious that you're sure enjoying yourself. Good for you!
Even though Ottawa NWR is much bigger and nicer than Pipe Creek the creek is only 10 minute's away vs. 40min.
Ive been really lucky with some of the odd migrant birds that have been visiting while Ive been birdwatching at the creek.
Today's visit produced another new bird and had me pretty excited when I saw him...the Marbled Godwit
