Sharon, yes my veggies are out in 'the boulevard' again this year. (I love it, the boulevard makes it sound so grand!) I built four raised beds in my sidewalk strip last year, so veggies will go out there for the foreseeable future. Although what was a very small tree in the middle of the strip last year has stuck its greedy roots into all the lovely compost in the nearest beds and is now a much larger tree casting more afternoon shade that I'd planned on. Hmph.
Comparing pictures of this summer and last, my vegetable gardens are way behind. I have green tomatoes but nothing ripe yet and I'm harvesting bush beans but the pole beans haven't even started flowering. Summer squash, cucumbers and melon still have blossoms only - no fruit - and my corn is just now starting to tassel.
On the other hand herbs are doing well - basil, dill, fennel, parsley, etc. And I've harvested several giant kohlrabi.
Fingers crossed for a long warm fall.
WHAT IS IN FULL COLOR NOW AUG 16-31
Beautiful Albizia, Linda! My SIL has one that is 30 years old. Love the blossoms on that tree.
Love to see pictures of your Boulevard beds, Kim. Your setup does your farmer father proud . . .
Some lovely plant photos, all! Many thanks for an early morning peruse. Out to get some gardening in before the next bout of rain comes, we have had two solid weeks of wind, rain, and low temperatures - not great for harvesting! B&%%er!
I have no pictures since my own computer is still on the fritz, but I do have Caryopteris shrubs blooming, both a smaller dark blue one, and a variegated leaf variety with light blue flowers. They got hit badly with the early freeze last year, but came back beautifully after pruning.
Stella d'oro is still blooming too.
My echinaceas (small plants put in April, and I've never done these before) are opening a few flowers. I love the coppery center cones. They are more interesting and vibrant live than in the catalog pictures, though not as plush.
I have a few straggly dahlias that don't get enough sun since the trees have gotten bigger, but I have ears on my corn stalks! Since I have only 6 corn plants I have been hand-pollinating them. I sure hope it works out because I now feel like they are my little children that I have nurtured.
Great job, Momma Judi.
I hope they turn out sweet...
Well, after my heavy contribution to this threa this time (NOT) it is already past time for the new one, so here we go.....
