CLOSED: Flying insect on car
This is a backswimmer (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Notonectidae); they are general predators on other small aquatic life - see http://tinyurl.com/2c46ga8 for more detailed information.
Thanks again, Suunto. I'm curious now where it came from. One of my neighbors may have a pond?
These insects are quite good fliers, and often can be found quite some distance from water. This bug may have mistaken the sheen of your car for reflection from a water surface.
Good to know as the nearest large pond is 6 miles away.
