CLOSED: Maryland, not usual Argiope

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

This guy/ gal has been on the back of the shed for a couple weeks now. It is slimmer and much smaller than the black and yellow Argiope I have had here, and not yellow but white. "Head " plus abdomen is no more than 3/4 inch. and the scribbling in the web is more of a solid than scribble. Thanks in advance!

You've got a female young spider. The abdomen gets larger as they swell with eggs.

There are considerable variations among individuals, and they may be darker, lighter, blacker, yellower or whiter. Depending on genetics and the location.

Well, neato! I saw your article but still wasn't sure. And when I've had Argiopes before they seem to just appear one day, full grown!
Thanks, melody
