I go out every evening to watch these moths since I discovered them; at 1st I thought they were hummingbirds since they fly fast like a hummingbird and the 2nd night I go to hear their wings fluttering and it also sounds like a hummingbird. This picture is of a male (I think) the males have spots on their body instead of stripes like the female. I have several good photos and just wanted to share this 1 with other people at Dave's Garden.

This looks a lot like Manduca sexta (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae), the adult of the tobacco hornworm. See http://tinyurl.com/2e6x5rc for detailed information.
suunto, you are so right, I just love to watch them and they get up close to you just like a hummingbird will.
