I learned of Winter Sowing in December of 2009. This is a brand new bed filled with WSn plants. I have Rudbeckia Irish Eyes and Tiger Eyes, Salvia, Cocokcomb, Poppy, Foxglove and Hollyhocks.
Snapdragon mysteriously appeared. I like it so it's staying.
Newbie to Winter Sowing
Congratulations, Diamond! Your beds are beautiful. Love the combos. 2009 was also my first year at WSing. I just wish that I'd sown more than a few things.
Debbie, do you have pictures of your WSn plants. I would love to see your flowers. I can't believe how much they have grown just this summer!
Looking great, Anita. That gaillardia is truly stunning! This was my first year of WS also. Isn't it fun to have something to do in the winter when we can't start much else?
Thanks Mom2Golden, it was so much fun to have seeds to start during the winter. I am trying to come up with different containers for WSing this year. I'm looking forward to doing it again the winter.
Do you have pictures of your garden?
I have some WSn Milkweed that is full of aphids. I debated if I should treat the aphids but decided againtst it. Now I have two huge Monarch caterpillars.

Anita -- wow, never did see this thread when you created it last summer. Beautify flower beds... they will fill in fast with all the WS;ing you will be doing.
the "sleep, creep and leap" I've heard that for Hostas.
there are plenty of first year blooming perennials and most others bloom the second year.
those new beds will be pretty filled by this summer.
fantastic job!! WS is great, isn't it??
Terese
terese WSing is highly addictive and so much fun! I am going to tryh it again this year. I have my containers ready to go I just need to get the bottles filled with dirt and seeds.
I poked my holes and sliced all the jugs this evening... DH looked over at me - i was in the kitchen, and said,
"It's that time of the year again?"
I have 2) 30gal trash bags filled with containers... mostly gallon jugs.

i can not believe I had never looked into ws ,i really have been missin the boat for years.Doin my jugs tonite...
Huggergirl, I cannot believe how close we are! This is perfect WSing weather today with all the snow.
Terese, I have mostly 2 litter bottles. I like the gallon jugs better...more space for seeds and easier to cut. I have even used the same concept to start seeds inside. It's the perfect container to start seedlings.
We are close Anita,Picked up supplies on our way home tonite,so I can sow tomorrow !!
My SD lives in Aboite. We are in Ft Wayne quite often.
What brand of potting mix are you using? I've run out and hope to get some more on Thursday. Also ran out of milk jugs but have accumulated 4 within last 2 days. Might have to go scavenger hunting one morning early or mid day before the recycle trucks come.
