One of the strays I feed came in today with a festering wound on her side. I had the other one of the strays to the vets two weeks ago for a swollen foot but she is a sweetie and easy to handle. This one does not hesitate to scratch me - I don't know how I can get her into a carrier to get her to the vet. I just hope the wound opens up and drains by itself. I have fed these cats for a couple of years and this is the first time I have seen them injured badly enough to need vet care. I know that she wanted me to help her - she hung around on the porch and waited and waited. I tried to see the wound to open it up - but I was afraid of her. Sometimes I just don't know what to do. If she isn't better tomorrow I will make an appointment for Saturday and put on heavy clothes and gloves and try and muscle her into a carrier. The cat vet will tranquilize her to work on her - but there is no way I can medicate her. Sigh.

Good thing school will start soon and I will have that extra paycheck to pay the vet bills. :) Hope there is enough left over by Spring to put on a roof.

Could you get a tranquilizer from the vet to put in her food?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

didn't think about that. The swelling was down this morning - so she might be able to handle it herself. I wonder what is beating them up?

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Probably other cats or maybe something else? I see my cat just laying around with skunks and racoons witrhin feet of him and it doesn't bother either of them any. So funny one nighty I had a skunk in my recycling bin next to my door and I walked outside in the dark. I felt it's tail touch my leg andthought hmmm, looked down and realized it was a skunk! I ran in the house screaming and the skunk just went about it's business. Didn't even look up from the bin! I was so lucky I didn't get sprayed.

You are lucky, Meredith! Skunks scare me. Here is the new kitty my niece adopted from Lollipop Farm on Sunday....no name yet....he found the laundry basket fast!

What a cutie!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

a cutie pie for sure

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I'm so glad that she adopted a cat and not a kitten! Looks like a very content kitty.

Hubby changed his mind about getting one for my daughter.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Aw that stinks! Kitties are so much fun for little girls. I feel like they are the easiest pet. I'm comparing to fish, bunnies and dogs. I don't know how any one thinks fish are easy, they always end up dieing from some disease even after you spend 50+ dollars on all the stuff the pet store recommends and I Hate cleaning the tank! I've only had the bunnies since April and man are they a lot more work than I thought they'd be!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I thought it would be pretty easy too, then he heard nightmares about cats being spitefull and will start peeing in the house if they are mad at you for some reason

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Uh-huh. As long as you do exactly what they want you to do exactly when they want you to do it - there is no problem. Ask me how I know. LOL!

Yank, hope your stray is OK.
Pretty cat Robin, reminds me of my Romeo some what.
Thats too bad Jen, kittens and little girls just go together ^_^

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I agree about kittens and girls. Some kind of bond that is so educational for the kids. But, Jen you don't like NJ or cats. You shouldn't have to endure both at once ^_^

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Meeyow has the wound open - so it should be all right. She will just have another battle scar. I will keep watch over her. She has been running the neighborhood since before I moved in and I have lived here 7 years now. She is old for a street cat - she must be wise.

I saw the first leaves turning color this week and HollyCat slept with me - both sure signs of Fall!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Jen, I've never had my own cats do that. If you don't get them spayed or neutered that is more likely to happen. But fixed cats have a much better temperment. I am sure some cats do do it, I've just never had my own do it. I'm up to having the pleasure of being owned by 5 cats now. 3 of them have passed on to a happier place.

My niece named her new kitty Eddie....it seems to fit him.

Mr G. He sleeps like a chicken, but I think he looks like a crockadile.

Good Grief - Jim went to subway for grinders and came home. He was offered $500 dollars for Mr. G. This is not a joke nor did I know when I posted his pics up above.

If jim sold mr g for 500 I would not be happy. I would be one - fill in the blank-------------

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. I'd insist on at least $1,000. ^_^

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Funny, Louise!
Mr G is a cutie. I'd be a little worried about someone off the street willing to buy a dog for $500

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah me too

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Is that the first time outside? Which one is the barky one?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Or is that the neighbor's dog I hear barking in the background?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah we finally puppy proofed the deck... we had to more or less put fencing up along the sides... it's a long way down in spots... and the yappy one is Jily she was chasing the birds in back ... she still wants nothing to do with the puppies... even when I just have one of them out.. I remembered when Michele got Riley that no one wanted to play with him until he was around 8 months old as well.. but at least they have Lily

Thomaston, CT

Love the scampering around! Cute, cute....they are going to miss each other when they go to new homes :(

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cute!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am worried about separation anxiety... a friend of mine told me the breeder they bought a dog from gave them a squeeky toy to bring home... because it smelled like momma... I have plenty of those extra... thought it sounded like a great idea

Thomaston, CT

It does sound like a good idea.....poor pups go from a pack to all alone.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

figured when they are crated or whatever... it might give them some comfort

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats a great idea Allison, something that smells like home will make the transition easier.

Mr G came with a squeek squeek and a pull rope. Squeeky toy did not last long and the pull rope is still here.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I had a pet squirrel once. I walked into a 7-11 with Chipper on my shoulder. A guy offered me $100 right there. I said no. Couldn't part with the little guy.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Squirrel Slurpee??

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Slurpee for squirrel, prefer not to think of it the other way. He was too cute!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)
