And so the Fall planting begins

Flower Mound, TX

Just loaded up my seed starter with Swiss Chard and Flowering Kale. And it's been about a week since I sowed my Pole Beans into the garden (my first planting in the new garden). Already seeing sprouts popping up. Just hope these 105+ degree days don't fry them before they can take hold.

Waiting for cooler temps before I sow my beets, spinach, and other greens as I hear the seeds do better directly in the ground as opposed to transplanting.

Bought 3 half whiskey barrel sized planters for my dwarf blueberries, which I bought in early Spring. They've really taken off so I'm moving them to permanent homes.

And also looking for in-ground spots for my 2 Black Currant plants which, after acquiring them earlier this year, are doing nicely.

And finally, I have 5-6 Earthboxes to start cleaning out. Now that I have good sized ground garden spot, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them going forward.

Anyone else braving the heat and trying to get started for Fall?

lol - I guess I could start making wildflower seed balls, instead of waiting until Oct when it's time to put them out. Should dry really fast right now...

We'll have another round of tree planting this fall, so we have just started getting serious about varieties. Also trying to get some more permanent veggie infrastructure in place - hoops for shade cloth or winter plastic, and sturdier supports for the melons and climbing veggies. (Ack! Even as I type, a big fat dumb dove decided it just had to perch on the cord the peas are climbing on. So, um, I guess we'll redo that one, too.)

So thinking about the fall, but not so much seed starting. Needs to drop another 15-20 degrees for that...

I'll be starting fall plantings the week of the 16th, when I get back home. My newest batch of composted chicken bedding should be just about ready then!

Looks like a clean slate to load up! Hope you don't get runoff from the elevated neighbor's yard.

Lovely spot for a garden JD and oh so clean.
