Alyssum and dwarf snappies. Pay no attention to that nasty weed in the background. Think I will head outside and take care of those right now.
August blooms
Gita, I love the poem, just beautiful.
I discovered coleus last year in my efforts to replace my desperate need and then disappointment in not being able to grow Hosta here in the Gulf Coast Region.. Its not impossible but even then, there are only a few (not so colorful ones) that will grow and only with MUCH effort. Its just way too HOT here...
I was attracted to Hosta for the beautiful colorful foliage.... so as you all know, I found it in coleus... Coleus grows here just fine.
Beautiful Blooms!! You all are amazing!!!!

Hey daisy-- My sister in Pensacola FL area was also told Hosta won't grow ethere --news to both of us-- but has gotten a Chinese cultivar ?? from a big local nursery, was told they are more heat hardy, and is doing OK in shade of a tall oak. But maybe you've been down that road, and its not what you have in mind. We saw some amazing Sun Coleus there too. A pretty good diversion ifyou can't have the Hosta you want--Plus the semi tropical hings you can grow that we can't up in MD.
Holly Er, the Plumeria flowers I showed were not on MY plant. My plant is sort of unhappy. Now I'm trying to make up ofr it with better care thru fall so I might get a stronger plant. After setting it out a little early and chillling the leaf buds (black tip) it finally leafed out. I think I had not watered enough at the start, afraid of root rot. and when I have had it in for the winter, the spider mites have gradually but inevitably taken over , yellowed all the leaves and made them fall. I let all th leaves fall, let it dry, and kept it in the basment. I think most people just let them dormant, then keep the unfrozen sticks somewhere till spring. So I don't use it as a winter houseplant.
LOL Sally, I did see about the black tip but didn't realize that wasn't your pic. Oh God just what I need another Spider mite magnate. You know how much trouble I have with those. I had better wait for awhile.
I went out and did a little weeding. Looks like the sun is coming out. Earlier it was overcast, cool and damp, perfect for weeding. I have JR today so I can't just go outside and garden to my hearts content. He likes working in the garden and can be a real help. You have to pick the right jobs when he is here. He loves to plant things, and give him a pair of hand clippers or loppers and he will go to town. Ric is running some errands (car repairs) and then picking up Josh to bring him over to switch out boat motors. We are going to a local fair later this evening, JR's parents are maning a dunking booth, I bet he will have a great time watching them get dunked. LOL Might get Josh to go along he will have a great time dunking them. LOL
Here is something JR planted earlier this summer. The giant Sunflower, Sally I remember you had one of these before.
Holly love the BESV and the coleus!!! ... great job... and WOW that sunflower is amazing JR looks so proud!!! ... MG's still frighten me.. but I like to look at yours CB!!!
lol, Thank You HollyAnn for sharing the Hosta bloom with me!! Made me smile.
I love alabama sunset one of my favs.
Alabama Sunset is a beauty!
another Al Sunset fan here
Holly, none of my passis made it. Yours looks great!!
Jen, I will rethink the fact that I don't grow coleus. That one is too good to pass up. I have calendula and I love the way they keep blooming on such upright sturdy stems!
This Luna Swirl hibiscus is the only one that made it from all the seeds that were sown, but it was worth it.

NOW----ahem.....
I want to show you what has become of my South African Foxglove----
It is bizarrely branched out and at least 7' tall. Nothing pretty about it!
I think--all it has going for it are those delicate, lavender blooms.
By now--I can barely reach them! BUT--Still--every day--there are these huge bees sopping up whatever
nectar there is at the base of the blooms--NOT inside the blooms themselves...
I am also, by now, gathering the dries seed-pods daily.
They SOOO freely just drop their seeds if you even just brush your finger at them!
I use small scissors to cut the pods off--holding a bowl-shaped receptacle just below it...
I am sure, by now, 100's of seeds have fallen in this tiny bed. UGH!
Here is what the TWO plants look like tonight. it was a bit dark already....
great shot of the clem Jen!!!
Roses, I should have some extra passi plants next summer don't let me forget to save one or two for you. That Luna Swirl hibiscus sure is a beauty. I think many plants put on one last big show this time of year. Just a little "See how beautiful we are" show.
nice Teri... looks like black beauty
