I live in Rio Rancho New Mexico and I have been seeing scorpions in my house for the last several years. They are on the small side. Usually they are no bigger than 2 inches. I know there are Bark Scorpions in southern New Mexico but I am not certain as to whether they have made their way to the central region of the state. Could someone help me with the identification of the scorpion? It had a black dot on the head. I had to spray it with Raid before it ran under the baseboard.
CLOSED: CLOSED: CLOSED: Is this a Bark Scorpion? I certainly hope not!!
The chelae (front 'claws') of this specimen look too robust for a bark scorpion (Centruroides sculpturatus). It may be a Vaejovis sp. - see http://tinyurl.com/27slvqn for links to images of all scorpion species reported from New Mexico.
Thanks so much for responding to my email. The link you gave is very informative. I feel somewhat relieved knowing these are not bark scorpions!
