Brown Widow Spider ? Black Recluse?

North Port, FL(Zone 9b)

New in SW FL I'm told to watch out for these spiders but I don't see anything in bug files about them. I'm familiar with Black Widows & unfortunately Brown Recluse. (Hubby was bitten by each). Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Thanks irisloverdee but I don't see anything about the 2 I asked about. I appreciate the link though, it's very informative.

Many people I am told by ER here take the Black House Spider as the Brown Recluse just black and it does say so.

I thought that there was also something on that site about the black widow as well

Sorry

The brown widow spider (Latrodectus geometricus) does occur in Florida - see http://tinyurl.com/2f4qtc4 for detailed information. To the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as a "black recluse" spider; recluse spiders in general (Loxosceles sp.) are uncommon in Florida (see http://tinyurl.com/br9f4); it appears that most reported recluse spider 'bites' are misdiagnosed/misattributed - see the 'sticky' at the top of this forum.

Thank you both for the help!
