I have several plants from 6-7 years ago labelled as aceriphyllum rossii.
Name subsequently changed a few years ago to mukdenia rossii.
The 'Crimson Fans' (aka Karasuba) cultivar was more recently introduced, as noted above.
Unfortunately, I've had poor luck with either the species or the cultivar.
I have several still alive, but that's all you can say for them.
Though one is showing some signs of life this year, so maybe one will actually take hold.
I'm afraid I can't help you with 'growth rate', given the complete absence of growth so far.
Mukdenia - crimson fans how much do they spread and how fast
So Lea won't have to worry about it being invasive! LOL
Can you tell me how much sun do you have them in Weerobin thanks for your response :) Just what I'm looking for. You know sometimes you can get a plant and it says no sun then when you plant them it could use some sun to bring the colors out more couldn't tell you how many times I've had to move plants because of not enough sun and the tag says shade or you go into one site and it says shade for the plant and the other site says morning sun :)
This site says to plant in partial to full sun:

This site says part shade:

I guess it all depends on where you are located at :)

Nope Pirl doesn't sound like I'm going to have much trouble with them taking them over lol Looks like I'll be lucky to keep them alive I soo want these too!
My mukdenia from the co-op just got eaten alive (and in total) out of it's little pot by some critter - most likely a squirrel, and now they're pulling up (but haven't eaten) the pulsatilla vulgaris that I just planted (from your seeds from last winter, Lea). Grrrr.
Oh man Sharon I'm so sorry! I've had so many problems with plants this year with no rain at all I just hope I don't have the squirrel problem this year! Since I've had my cat going outside thru the day I haven't seen them that much out front but she has been grounded until the hummers are gone, she has gotten two so far, so I'm starting to worry about the squirrels here again but they don't seem to dig the older plants just the new plants put into the ground and I haven't planted mine yet so many cracks in the ground for now where I want to plant I don't ever think we are going to get any more rain! I can water out there like crazy but it just doesn't doesn't make the plants grow not like rain does and have lost a few.
Before my cat came to me every year about this time when I was planting I had to put chicken wire around every one of my newly planted flowers to keep those darn squirrels out and even my new pots planted up they would dig in them to burry nuts and whatever but they never ate any plants that I know of...maybe you have another critter out there.
I think I lost my momma plants to the pulsatilla vulgaris and my lemon queen this year sure looks like it I've been watering but they are gone I sure hope they come back for next year my seedlings have been struggling with no rain and lost my lemon queen seedlings but still have a few of the pulsatilla vulgaris left it's been an awful dry year this year we are suppose to get rain again for Thursday but I don't look for it to happen! I bet we haven't had any rain for at least six weeks if not more! Probably more!
Now I'm afraid to plant my little mukdenia maybe I'll put a cage over them they are really getting bushy in their pots but the coop plants are being babied a lot more than my other seedlings from winter.
Thanks, Lea. Not even a body to bury. It's true they only go after newly planted stuff. I should learn my lesson and scatter used cat litter around whenever I plant, but the squirrels haven't done all that much damage this year. I probably still have some pulsatilla vulgaris seeds that you sent, so I guess I'll try again this winter. I'd definitely put a cage over your mukdenia. Mine must've been really tasty.
.
Sharon, Does used cat litter really work one time I put a cat litter pale out to catch rain water and forgot to wash it out and wonder if it wasn't that one I use to water my pots with and killed a couple of plants but they were in pots too not in the ground that may have made a difference but I went ahead and got rid of a few bukets out there after that I keep getting this red in my rain buckets someone on here said it may just be iron deposits from the water but I've had some trouble out of those maybe iron isn't good in the water for the plants or maybe they just had too much in them but it took over half of my rain buckets when I retired them for that reason and the sun damage on them. I'm using the Tidy Cat litter clumping kind.
It sure seemed to work when I sprinkled small amounts around plants that I had to replant. They weren't dug up again, though a few had been dug up several times before I used it. I no longer have cats, so I've used several kinds - whatever my friends or tenants have in their litter boxes - it doesn't seem to matter, as long as it's somewhat saturated.
You know Sharon I was thinking about that yesterday and I don't think I could do that because of the feral cats around here they would think it was 'open bathroom' time in my beds again they use the litter boxes in the garages now don't want to invite them in my beds again that's where they used to go until I put the boxes in the garages :) I even have to keep the litter up off of the ground when they scratch it out or they will go on the ground where it spills :)
That's too bad, but I'd think that just having a bunch of feral cats around would help.
I still have all kinds of voles lol They say once you have a colony of them they are really hard to get rid of the way they multiply I saw a dead one yesterday out in my mini shade garden but looks like if it was a cat that killed it they would have eaten it didn't have a mark on it! Strange.
I don't even know what a vole looks like. I guess I'm lucky.
Almost like a mouse it has a shorter tail I can send you some from here :) All the pictures I find of them they look fat but ours are really skinny:
http://www.huntington.edu/thornhill/images/wildlifephotos/mammals/meadowvole.jpg
Lea, that one is really cute and cuddly looking, but please don't send any!
If yours are really skinny, I think you need to feed them more, Lea.
I'm afraid they are eating more Polly that's the problem lol And that stupid mole won't leave my hydrangea alone! I'm replanting it this evening AGAIN! I'm scared to death what winter is going to bring here with the critters in my new side yard bed! It's not looking good right now and if this is a preview of winter I'm going to have to camp out in my front yard LOL
So does that mean I shouldn't offer them in the swap this year Sharon Ha! Like I could catch the darn thangs. I'm getting ready to put some dcon down the holes I think the voles are using the mole tunnels right now because I don't see any of their holes just where the moles come up and peek, those are bigger but I have a lot more holes now than I had a couple of weeks ago and almost caught a glimpse of a mole on the other side of the house yesterday it ran back in as I was coming up behind it just got a tiny glimpse of it! I just have to be really really careful with that dcon I hate using it but I'm getting desperate!
Lea, I'm really sorry you've been having such a terrible summer - between the moles and the voles, and heat and drought and insects... I do hope the next gardening season is a lot better for you!
Next year has got to be better :) Knock on wood lol I guess you hit one of those years when it's the worse so now I'm getting this one out of the way and it will be all up hill from this year. I'm just soo glad to get this one over with.
