found it in the pool not moving but thought it might be alive. scooped it out to release/dispose in the grass & it took off happily.
outstretched legs gave it diameter of approx 4". Body approx 1 1/2". Thank you

The image is not clear enough for a determination, but if the spider truly was that large, about the only thing it might be is a golden silk spider, Nephila clavipes - see http://tinyurl.com/2d77kcd
